Class 08
What is Love
Multi-Lesson Series & Curriculum
Seriously though, what is love?? Unfortunately, our culture, upbringing, and life experiences have infected our perspective. You may honestly believe that: love is a feeling, love is love, or love is tolerance. According to the Old and New Testaments, all of these are false.
Jesus loved God by obeying His will at all costs during His time on earth. He said in John 14:21 “Those who accept my commandments and obey them are the ones who love me…” Somewhere along the way, the modern Church has adopted a false view of love from our worldly society in attempts to attract more members and avoid feelings of intimidation. This has had the deadly consequence of perverting the faith of multiple generations of Christians.
In this What Is Love? BKC Discipleship class, we discuss the common viewpoints of love according to secular culture. Then, we examine and study the true love of God from a Biblical perspective in both the Old and New Testaments. We’ll clearly outline from the lives of those in Scripture, including Jesus, that real love is completely self-less. Oftentimes, we make decisions out of “love” for someone, but it’s really about us and our comfort zone.
In this class and curriculum, you will learn the true meaning of love and how to practically walk it out serving Him and other people. His love is self-sacrificial, tangible and relational. We are commanded to love as Jesus did and you will discover it’s not a fuzzy feeling or moral compromise to keep the peace. The sign of true God love means that you live and tell people the truth because you care about their destiny and eternal reality.
Being able to answer the question, “What is love? literally defines the very way we are called to live as Kingdom Citizens and real disciples.
